Hello!! This is a future, Leoichi, Western/Cowboy ROTTMNT au that takes place in Montana, USA. Loosely based on the song linked above. It is a fic on AO3 that is updated every Sunday night CST. Occasionally I will upload early :)

SYNOPSIS:

Yuichi Usagi, former samurai, recently relocated to Montana from the headache that was New York, looking for a fresh start. The clear skies and mountain air provides a lot of calm—and new opportunities, he discovers when he meets four turtle brothers down the street from his farm, each with their own captivating personality and kind souls. One in particular has started to make his heart pound a little faster, and yet he can’t shake this strange feeling that he knows him from somewhere…

Leonardo Hamato has lived in the same rural community almost his entire life. His family packed up and left the city when he was seventeen, and there isn’t much he remembers from the months leading up to their move. One thing he does know is that this handsome stranger is about to make his life much more interesting.

Donatello Hamato has been described as a gunslinger, a vigilante, a cold force of unstoppable nature. That’s certainly what he looks like to Yuichi, and the rabbit yokai can’t explain the man’s unwelcoming attitude towards him. But as Donnie begins to block him out of Leo’s life, taking down old pictures from the wall, silently conveying that some things are best stayed buried, well… something is definitely wrong here.

In the prison dimension:

4h later on earth:

“No, Mikey, I told you we’re not talking to him again until you can tell him we found a way to get him home.”

“But he needs us now!"

“Even if we talk to him it won’t do him any good because he’ll just think it’s another one of his hallucinations. You’ve heard his latest transmissions, he completely lost touch with reality, that’s why I need to work here in my lab to spend my time trying to figure out how to get him home, instead of leaving my valuable work to have a little ‘chat’ with our psychotic brother!”

*Ding* (new message from Leo)

“Play it.”

“Not now, Angelo, I’m very busy at the moment and there’s nothing of value Leo could possibly tell me because I can’t trust that anything he says is real.”

“Pleeease.”

“You know that doesn’t work on me, Miguel.”

“How about I make your favorite meals every day for a week?”

“Even your thirteen layer vegetarian lasagna? The one you never make because Raph and Pops hate it and always complain when you cook it for supper?”

“I’ll make it twice.”

“Fine. But I’m not responsible for any wacko, off-the-wall deluded ‘krang-buddies’ talk you might hear."

“Leo’s not wacko!”

“Are you sure you want this? The last time you heard what Leo had to say, you locked yourself in your room, and we found out when Raph called you for breakfast you’d been up all night crying.”

“Yes, I’m sure, now play it!”

“Alright, but the second I see a single tear in your eye, or if Leo’s getting hurt, I’m shutting it down.”

POV: Leo is trapped in the prison dimension with Krang Prime, where he can't die permanently and his mental health is rapidly deteriorating.

Unknown to him, using his wrist com mystically sends his audio recordings to his family on earth, and Mikey is able to communicate with him in return, dubbing him the name 'Tiny Mikey' by their mentally unwell brother, who thinks: “The Mikey in my com must be teeny tiny, I can’t see him anywhere.”

My name is Golden and I’m here to ask some very important things.

I’m doing a big project for school and it involves some questioning 🤨

I’m posting here for all to answer, BUT in a few days I will be personally sending said questions to specific people I want answers from!

You might be wondering, what is my so called “big project”? Well, I'm in a cool little program that allows students like myself to work on ONE main project for 6-10 weeks, and the project can be about almost anything you want.

And since I Love Rottmnt so much, my main focus is, “Investigate the art style of 2018 Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and learn how to draw in the style” ✨

A pretty big question, I know. But that’s what I'm going for.

Now, this is where you guys come in. I need Rise and its beautiful artists' help, all I need you lovely people to do is simply answer some of my questions below.

1.How was your learning experience while learning how to draw in general? Did you start when you were little? How long have you been drawing for? Have you been to art school or not? ect.

2.How was your experiences learning how to draw RISE? What was the hardest part of it all? Are you still struggling now? What do you wish you were better at?

3.How long did it take to get to a drawing level that you liked? Why do you draw the Ninja turtles that way, Do you just like the way it looks or is it the only way you know how to draw them?

4.Do you have any word of advice for new and beginner artists trying to learn how to draw, more Specifically in the Rise style?

Since the Kraang movie rewrite fic has just wrapped up and Season 4 of Surp-Rise will be soon upon us, I wanted to get these references out for what the turtles' new looks are for the very end of the fic / in Season 4.

I have not drawn seriously in ages, and my roommate allowing me to borrow her iPad to draw in order to save my back intense pain (thank you @roctaku331! <3 Love you sm) has been a godsent. I am enjoying drawing digitally again because doing it no longer causes me immense, crippling pains.

Season 4 of Surp-Rise will start posting on AO3 on Monday, August 21, 2023. Five short stories taking us back and forth in time, following my separated Leo angst rottmnt ao3 fanfic, Where Loyalties Lie (posting schedule: once a week starting Feb 1)

Tiny Nymphs and Tickle Fingers

Leo and Splinter have a heart-to-heart before he goes out for some brotherly bonding time on what he thinks will be a patrol of the city, but Raph has other plans; in the past, X earns a golden ticket to one of 'Auntie' Big Mama’s fancy restaurants for throwing a fight and Draxum is displeased with him for something that wasn't his fault because he 'should have known better'.

Pungent Sulfur and a Blow Horn

X happens across a skunk yokai Draxum wants out of the way and later goes to his friend Sagi for support and someone to confide in; in the present Leo asks Donnie if skunks are animals and when his 'twinsie' senses something is wrong but Leo doesn't want to open up, he gets 'Dr. Feelings' involved.

That Four-Letter-Word

X takes a panda yokai he is dating to a secluded spot in the Shimmering Hot Springs but while there she throws out the dreaded four-letter-word; in the present, Leo wonders if perhaps it was a bad idea to take the fox he loves to the same secluded place where he used to take 'chickies' to hook up.

Slave Tags and Beach Balls

Everything changes for Little X after the day he is ordered to take his first life. Now his father-figure has downgraded him from position of what he thought was 'beloved son' to 'worthless slave' and is taking him to receive his slave tags, what did he do wrong?; in the present, fun sibling banter turns into a sad reminder of the day everything changed for Leo so he leaves to confide in Yolinda, but with Donnie's subcutaneous tracker a success, a lone turtle and his girlfriend can't enjoy a peaceful moment on a secluded tropical island for long before his family insist on joining them.

Villains and Heroes

The events leading up to the moment Leo first meets his siblings, switching back and forth from his and their perspectives.
